EX-FREMANTLE player David Mundy has been drafted to Carngham-Linton Football Club to play one game for the team this season.

The appearance is part of the second year of the Carlton Draft program in which ex-AFL players join struggling clubs, backed by the beer maker.

Mundy, the Fremantle games record holder and 2015 All Australian player who retired last year want at pick two in the draft.

He said he is looking forward to playing football in country Victoria again after growing up and playing juniors here.

“I am fresh out of the game, I have plenty in the tank and I am feeling confident that I will be able to run out the four quarters in the guts and put on a show for the local community,” he said.

“I grew up at the footy club, so I understand what local footy means to so many in the community. Irrespective of it all, I am just excited to put my hand up and provide them a day they won’t forget.”

Mundy also said he is hoping to get a win on the board for the Saints.

“I was pretty stoked to go so high up the draft order with the second pick in The Carlton Draft and can’t wait to pull on the Carngham-Linton guernsey and play a one-off game for the Saints,” he said.

“I’ve been doing a bit of training to make sure the body holds up during the game, so I should be fit, firing and ready to go.

“Hopefully I can play my part to get Carngham a win, and provide a much-needed boost to the local community, as at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about”.

Mundy joins the Carlton Draft’s celebrated line up including 2003 Brownlow Medallist Nathan Buckley, four-time premiership winner Jordan Lewis, Adelaide and Melbourne best and fairest recipient Bernie Vince and premiership players Josh Kennedy and Kane Cornes.

Last year the program proved a great boost to country football clubs with Dale Thomas helping the Nhill Tigers to their first win in 1029 days while also raising more than $12,000 for the community.

The Carlton Draft season kicks off on Saturday, 13 May and will end on Sunday, 23 July with the date of the Carngham-Linton game yet to be announced.
