SENIOR students at Mount Blowhard Primary School will soon take centre stage with the return of the school’s regular fete.

The event will see all 19 of the institution’s grade 5 and 6 pupils manning eight stalls offering a range of activities and offerings for the community to take part in.

Grade 5 and 6 teacher Laura Box said the fete will provide a dual benefit for attendees and organisers alike.

“The students do everything – they build their own stalls, write up a proposal to the principal and myself to get behind, and run everything,” she said.

“They learn about leadership, teamwork, and collaboration, and how to run things with minimal resources.

“For the community, it’s great to see because we don’t have a kinder or town so it shows we’re doing things, that we’re welcoming, and that we’re here.” With a minimum of three offerings per stall, Ms Box said the fete will feature a broad range of activities.

“One of my groups is doing face painting and hair spray, others are doing raffles, classic catches, bracelet making then in another they’re decorating donuts and doing temporary tattoos,” she said.

“They try and do a few things at once.”

Many of the materials and resources utilised for the fete are donated through families and businesses.

In lieu of cash, ticket sales used to engage with the stalls will go towards the school’s junior student council, which subsequently will be donated to charities or used to purchase school resources.

“This year, we donated money to bushfire-affected animals,” Ms Box said. “Often we do The SoupBus, Pyjama Foundation…

“We also use the money for outside resources, a MasterChef program, and sports equipment, sometimes a bus if we have an event coming up.

“It’s on during school hours and we always get heaps of parents, grandparents, past students, and people who live locally. It’s open to everyone.”

The fete will run from 1.30pm on Friday 15 November. Tickets will be on sale at the gate for 50 cents each as well as in $5 or $10 packs.
