Service line caught in cyber security incident
ORACLECMS, a third-party platform the City of Ballarat uses to manage after-hours customer service calls, has been caught in a cyber security incident.
City of Ballarat acting CEO Matt Wilson said residents’ confidentiality and privacy is critically important to the municipality, and wanted to reassure customers that the City’s databases haven’t been hacked, only the OracleCMS system.
Data involved in the breach includes some names, addresses, and phone numbers collected between April 2015 and December 2017. There are 52 local residents City officers expect may be impacted and these people will be contacted directly.
“The City of Ballarat apologises unreservedly to everyone affected by this incident,” Mr Wilson said.
“We are in the process of contacting every resident impacted and are offering no-cost access to the services of national identity and cyber support service IDCARE.”
OracleCMS are working to boost their cyber security and prevent any further hacks. The incident is being investigated by authorities.
