VISUAL art by creatives within the Inclusive Arts Network is now on show as part of the organisation’s annual exhibition.

Event coordinator Donald Harvey has curated 97 works by 95 people with disabilities and mental health challenges, and two carers, for the display at Eastwood Leisure Centre.

The exhibition showcases and sells pieces by emerging and experienced artists from Ballarat, Bendigo, Colac, Geelong, Melbourne, Wagga Wagga, and even the United States.

“Every year since 2014, we’ve been having the exhibitions, and with this year’s being the 10th, I thought I’d open it up to more people,” he said.

“All the exhibitions have featured artists with disabilities who may not otherwise get the chance to exhibit their work in art exhibitions.

“They may not have the funds to hold their own exhibition, or they may not know what group exhibitions are out there for them to show their work in.

“Some works would suit a top-end exhibition, while others are simply a few strokes. There is a whole range of ability, and it is inclusive to all.

“I feel it’s my responsibility to make sure they have the opportunity.”

The collection includes work by well-known locals Anne Chibnall and Tim Sedgwick, and Mr Harvey said feedback has been fabulous.

“They’ve enjoyed the talent behind the artists, and artists have said they wouldn’t have otherwise been able to do something like this,” he said.

The exhibition is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, Saturday, 9am to 4pm, and Sunday by appointment, until Friday 29 September.
