BALLARAT Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions has appointed Sowmya Nargaraj to project manage the Grampians Community Power Hub.

An engineer, Ms Nargaraj has expertise in the areas of renewables, energy efficiency, and electronics, and is the former coordinator of the Victorian Healthy Homes Program.

“This community energy project is about getting a lot of different people together to bring positive changes, especially at this time when we’re facing a big global challenge with climate change,” she said.

“I’d like to see communities equipped to be more energy resilient, especially in the Grampians Region and across Ballarat’s different community groups.

“I’m very community oriented, so I’d like to see everyday people take things into their own hands, rather than relying on someone else to solve the problem, or be their saviour.”

BREAZE has also appointed Sam Rodgers as the GCPH communications and administrative officer.

An environmental scientist with expertise in sustainability management, Mr Rodgers is the host of the Smart Living Ballarat Talks program, and is the former Wyndham City Council sustainability officer.

BREAZE president Dr Mary Debrett said the organisation is pleased to have secured “such well qualified professionals.”

“They are passionate about the clean energy future and committed to helping to drive the transition to renewables across this region,” she said.

“The BREAZE team is looking forward to working with them in taking up the challenge of the Community Power Hub program.”
