THE main shopping areas of Buninyong are set for major capital works following a joint funding announcement between the State government and the City of Ballarat.

Coming in at $600,000 with each party bringing half the money for upgrades to Warrenheip Street that includes levelling the footpath, improved parking and changes to the streetscape.

“I am very pleased to see this upgrade to the business strip of Warrenheip Street. The Warrenheip Street strip has been overdue for a revitalisation,” said Member for Buninyong, Michaela Settle.

“Buninyong has a unique combination of historic charm and contemporary shops, cafes and markets. This upgrade will improve safety and access for Buninyong’s residents, local businesses and visitors.

“This is another great partnership between the Victorian government and the City of Ballarat.”

Mayor Cr Ben Taylor was keen to recognise the role area groups had played in shaping the project.

“I also want to acknowledge the work of Buninyong and District Community Association and Bendigo Bank in supporting this project and providing a strong benefit to the community,” he said.

“The project will improve pedestrian safety and greatly assist anyone using local businesses throughout the Buninyong township.”

Fellow south ward representative Cr Jim Rinaldi said that Buninyong and the community were the ultimate winners out of the project.

“Buninyong is a growing, vibrant community that needs renewed infrastructure such as this,” he said.

“The new works will greatly benefit residents and local businesses and will also serve to renew the streetscape.”

The works also include sections of Learmonth Street and are expected to be complete by mid-2021.
