CITY of Ballarat staff are looking for feedback from the community about shared e‑scooters and e‑bikes in the municipality.

Recent changes by the State Government allow their permanent operation.

A trial began in Ballarat in 2021, and more than 375,000 trips were taken across the region covering 850,000 kilometres.

A user survey conducted this year indicated that 66 per cent of trips resulted in purchases at local businesses and 38 per cent of trips replaced car journeys.

Mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said community feedback will be critical to deciding the future of the initiative.

“We know e‑scooters and e‑bikes have become a popular way to get around Ballarat, but it is important that we hear from our community to ensure the program is meeting local needs,” she said.

“Consultation is essential to deciding the next steps.

“This is an opportunity for residents to share their views and experiences, raise possible concerns, and help us ensure there is a safe system that works for everyone.”

A survey is available on the City of Ballarat’s MySay website or at the municipality’s customer service centre until Monday 25 August.

Face‑to‑face consultation will occur at Sebastopol Library from 10 am until 12 pm and Ballarat Library from 2 pm until 4 pm on Thursday 14 August.

There will also be a session at Lucas Community Hub from 2 pm until 4 pm on Wednesday 20 August.
