Taking inspiration from artwork
LILY Mae Martin will be at the Art Gallery of Ballarat next Saturday to guide people on how to create drawings from other artworks.
Her workshop will take place in the Significant Others exhibition and attendees will learn the basics of drawing, different techniques, and tricks to finding inspiration in other artworks.
“There is a long history of going into gallery spaces and students drawing from master art works,” said Martin.
“It’s harking back to a lot of traditional training and practice.”
Martin is a visual creative who graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2008.
Her works are delicate, created with fine liner pens and she said she likes this style as it is accessible to anyone.
“I’ve always drawn and pen and paper is just something that is so accessible,” said Martin.
“Drawing is so immediate, and I think for me I just want to draw the picture so I need something that is immediate.”
Martin encouraged anyone to take part in the workshop, even if they are not an experienced drawer.
“A lot of people worry about being good at something, but we are never going to learn anything if we don’t just start,” she said.
“Participants just need to be willing to give everything a go.”
The session will take place on Saturday 3 February from 1pm. Tickets can be purchased on the Art Gallery of Ballarat website.
