ALTHOUGH theatre productions may currently be on hold, Ballarat National Theatre and the Warrandyte Theatre Company have teamed up to present new online play, A 2020 Vision.

Written by award winning playwright Emma Wood, the production pulls together responses offered by Victorians from questions focusing on experiences during the pandemic.

“I started a Facebook page and asked a series of questions on there over 14 days and got thousands of words in response which I condensed to get a cross section of experiences,” Ms Wood said.

“The communal script writing process, and the Facebook page, was extremely cathartic and rewarding and everyone was really vulnerable.”

While the cast and crew are hoping to showcase the performance live at theatres in both Ballarat and Melbourne when possible, for now, the production will be shown via Zoom.

Directed by Susan Rundle and Adrian Rice, the a cast of nine have been rehearsing in preparation for both the online and in person performances.

“Adrian and I have challenged ourselves to do just this online, and not as a play reading but a performance,” Ms Rundle said.

“While online will never replace live theatre, 2020 has been all about challenging ourselves outside the norm and directing performances online is a true representation of the year.”

Running for 50 mins, A 2020 Vision will go live from Friday, 27 November to Saturday, 28 November.
