Talent boost for regional partnerships

MORE than forty new nominees have been appointed to Victoria’s nine Regional Partnerships economic development territories, bringing the total to sixty-seven people and reflecting a renewed focus on commercial growth in regional Victoria.

The selected individuals were chosen based on their strong connections to local community, industry and business groups, and experience in leadership roles.

Their networks are hoped to position Regional Partnerships to provide direct place-based access to government.

“Regional Partnerships are a key voice to Government, recognising local communities are in the best position to understand the challenges and opportunities faced by their region,” said Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney.

New regional Development Victoria CEO Xavier Csar said it’s “pleasing” that the appointments will provide an important and effective route to government.

“Our work with the Regional Partnerships is part of the Victorian Government’s ongoing commitment to making rural and regional Victoria even better places to live, work, stay and play,” he said.

Over the past few years, the Partnerships have supported a range of initiatives to deliver benefits to local communities.

For example, following representation by the Mallee Regional Partnership its first Cross Border Commissioner was appointed to address border-related issues.

The Goulburn Regional Partnership also helped secure $15 million to fund the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub.
