NOW in its one hundred and thirty-second year, the all-ages performing arts talent displayed within the Royal South Street Society Eisteddfod continues to dazzle local audiences.

On until late-October, the RSSS’ competition hubs include Founders Theatre at Federation University’s Mount Helen campus, the Civic Hall, and the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute, while the traditional home of the eisteddfod, Her Majesty’s Theatre, is closed for upgrades.

RSSS’s new chair Lindsay Eaton said some of the most popular sections are yet to take place.

“In September out at FedUni we’ve got the fantastic bands, dance sections, and we’re finishing on October the 23rd with calisthenics, which is always so special,” he said.

“Historically, the month of October is known as our ‘calisthenics month,’ and if you’ve never been to a calisthenics performance, it’s fascinating for newbies.”

Mr Eaton said the society is working to get back to full speed after the impacts of the pandemic, and the ongoing Her Maj closures.

“The dance, bands, and calisthenics are all usually at Her Majesty’s, so not having that space has had quite an impact on our program,” he said.

“As the new chair, my role is to ensure that the program continues to run smoothly, with the support of the board, our two fabulous staff members, and all our volunteers, who do an amazing job.”

Mr Eaton said RSSS encourages those who are interested in becoming eisteddfod volunteers in the areas of ushering, ticket sales, and registrations to express their interest via [email protected].
