Teeing off for a good cause

February 13, 2019 BY

TWENTY eight teams of golfers took to the fairways and the greens at Creswick’s RACV Goldfields Resort for McCallum’s Corporate Golf Day last week.

McCallum Disability Services maximises opportunities in community life for people of all abilities through accommodation, employment, education, recreational and lifestyle pursuits.

Tyrone McCuskey, McCallum’s CEO said, “The golf day is very important in terms of the fact that it is not just a fundraiser, we recognise that and put all the funds back into client services, but it’s as much about connecting with the Ballarat community in terms of employment.”

A lot of the McCallum’s programs are built around employment, therefore building relationships with Ballarat businesses, through its golf day, opens up opportunities for the people it cares for.

A number of the companies that supported a team for the golf have used McCallum’s in-house manufacturing facility.

The organisation also supports employees who carry out different tasks at various work sites.

“We are trying to develop this new employment concept that we have been rolling out over the last twelve months,” said Mr McCuskey.

With the introduction of the NDIS, McCallum can apply for funding for individuals, some for the first time in their lives, to go on holidays.

“The aim of the golf day this year is to raise enough funds to purchase a master bus vehicle,” Mr McCuskey said.

“The bus will provide transportation to camps, festivals, events and holiday destinations around country Victoria for people with high-disability needs. The vehicle is equipped to facilitate ease of access so the passengers can enjoy the things that we all enjoy.”

A breakfast, followed by lots of laughs provided by The Project’s Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann, kicked off the day for the golfers.

Competing in an ambrose competition the players had the opportunity to take home a pool of prizes if they managed to score a hole in one on any of the three par holes on the course.

Stewart Hynes from Retire Invest said, “it’s a well organised and enjoyable day out of the office all for a good cause.”
