A $4800 donation from the Lions Club of Buninyong-Mount Helen has funded the purchase of a state-of-the-art thermal imaging camera for the Yendon-based brigade.
The camera will allow firefighters to detect hotspots during bushfires and monitor smouldering areas that may flare up again.
It can also identify hidden fire spread in trees and inside walls and roofs, making fireground operations safer and more effective.
Mount Buninyong CFA plays a key role in safeguarding Yendon, Lal Lal, Clarendon, Scotsburn, Navigators and surrounding communities. Brigade members said they were grateful for the support, noting that donations like this directly improve the resources available to local volunteer firefighters.
Representing Mount Buninyong CFA, Second Lieutenant Eliesha Harbour thanked the Lions Club.
“This camera will make a real difference to how we respond,” she said.
“It will improve safety for our members on the ground and help us protect the community more effectively.”
The gift also highlights the Lions Club’s ongoing commitment to community safety.
Celebrating their 50th year, the club also recently donated $20,000 to Buninyong-Mount Helen CFA to assist with the purchase of a Ford Ranger Forward Command Vehicle.
