STATE election day in Creswick won’t just be a serious, democratic occasion, but a chance to have some fun too.

On Saturday, 26 November, CresFest organisers will host an Election Day Fiesta at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre from 9am to 4pm.

Musical performers will include the Creswick Kids Choir, the Geelong’s MarimbaTaters, and one-man band Phil Melgaard.

“We have an ongoing commitment to bring live music to Creswick year-round, and alongside running concerts, we also support community music playing,” said CresFest convenor Judy Turner.

“We also want to make the most of every possible opportunity to bring the joy of music to everyone, and as the Neighbourhood Centre is the home of the festival, it makes sense to run something there as people come and vote.

“CresFest members co-founded the Creswick Chorus, the Creswick Kids Choir, and the ukulele group. We also want to give them opportunities to perform.”

There’ll be plenty of “democracy sausages” and cakes, attendees can have a go at playing the marimbas, and be entertained by juggling and hoola-hooping.

Funds raised by the barbecue will go towards CresFest 2023’s parade and Latin dance extravaganza, and cheaper festival tickets will be sold at the Neighbourhood Centre on the day.

“We want locals to find the festival accessible, to be there in big numbers, and we’ll give them a taste of what they can expect,” Ms Turner said.

CresFest organisers have been staging monthly concerts this year, and the fiesta will act as the November gig.
