EARLIER this year, up-and-coming painter Tomas Lineker had his first-ever solo art exhibition in Soldiers Hill.

In the months since, he’s secured representation from Australia’s Studio Gallery Group, but more excitingly, the chance to leave his fluorescent mark on New York City.

After one of his bold, bright paintings was seen in a group show by a representative of NYC’s On The Fringe gallery, Lineker has been invited to present a solo exhibition of 13 original artworks in their space in Tribeca, Lower Manhattan for one week in September.

“The exhibition is titled Outside, because I always feel like I’m outside of the style of mainstream artists,” he said.

“I’ve never had any formal or university art training, and I use fluorescent paint, so a lot of what I do is quite different.

“I paint faces and feelings into my work which are feelings of being an outsider, or outside the norm. The show is going to be a weird, colourful mix of still life and abstract figures.”

Each painting in the show will be for sale, so Lineker is inviting interior designers and art dealers from NYC to check out the exhibition, and Outside will be featured in Culture magazine.

“I’m nervous, but there’s a lot of excitement. You never know whose hands my art could fall into.

“At least if the show is a flop, none of my friends will be around to see it,” he laughed.

Lineker recently made the decision to resign from his day job so he could pursue a creative career, commit to making art full-time, and have more time to spend with his children.

His goal now is to sell as many paintings as he can and get his work in front of as many pairs of art-loving eyes as possible, with the hope of travelling around the world to present his work.
