Training for Golden Plains council candidates

INFORMATION and training sessions for prospective candidates wanting to run for Golden Plains Shire council at the upcoming municipal elections have been scheduled.

Those looking to get elected to the Shire’s council have been strongly encouraged to attend at least one of the upcoming events.

The Victorian Local Government Association are set to hold two free candidate training sessions.

The events are designed to increase understanding of councils, the role of councillors, local government basics and election candidacy.

The sessions also aim to prepare prospective candidates for the online mandatory training that is legally required under the Victorian government’s updated Local Government Act 2020.

First of the two sessions will be held Tuesday, 1 September between 4pm and 5,30pm at The Well at Smythesdale with the second happening Thursday, 3 September again from 4pm to 5.30pm at the Golden Plains Civic Centre at Bannockburn.

Shire residents who are interested in the events and can register for the training at vlga.org.au and follow the links.

Additionally, the Municipal Association of Victoria will also be holding a stand for council information session online on Tuesday, 11 August from 10am to 12pm.

The statewide municipal elections are set for October this year and will be held by compulsory postal vote, with counting taking place on 24 October.
