A TRIVIA event fundraiser run through Y Ballarat’s youth team is set to return later this month.

Following its debut last year, the non-profit’s youth action and advisory group are bringing their Joypardy trivia night back with the aim of raising funds for their Bags of Joy campaign, which provides gifts for disadvantaged people around Christmas.

Youth impact facilitator Kate Moran said the event will offer a fun night of brainteasers for all ages.

“It’s 10 rounds of a range of different themes, and there’ll be live music with some raffles and pries available and side games returning from last year,” she said.

“Last year we raised just over $2000 which went towards the entire Bags of Joy effort. It was pretty much a sell-out and we had about 70 people attending.

“It was entirely youth-led, everything from presenting the rounds to writing the trivia questions.”

The advisory group’s members will host the event, while raffle prizes and silent auctions will be up for grabs for attendees.

Last year’s event contributed to the Bags of Joy campaign delivering more than 200 gifts to young people aged between 12 and 21 for Christmas.

Ms Moran said the Bags of Joy initiative has supported the region’s youth for 10 years.

“When a young person who feels like they’ve been forgotten by the world receives a gift from their community addressed to them, the impact is profound,” she said.

“Last year’s Joypardy boosted our fundraising effort significantly. It put the campaign on people’s radars much earlier but also gave people the opportunity to actually participate in the fundraising. “They could attend an event and hear some of the stories from some of the kids who’ve been recipients in previous years.”

The Joypardy trivia night will run from 6pm on Thursday 25 July at Ballarat Trades Hall.

Attendees can participate in tables of ten people. Tickets are $22.49 per person, or $213.08 for a full table, and can be booked at bit.ly/3VY79CW.

Donations are being sought to be used for raffle prizes and can be submitted by emailing [email protected].
