Uni commits to clean future

STAFF at Federation University Australia have announced their organisation’s plan to reach net zero carbon emissions at all their campuses within the next ten years.

Part of a towards net zero plan, the initiative aims to reach the zero emissions goal by 2033, with funding provided by the State Government.

Federation University’s vice-chancellor and president Professor Duncan Bentley said it’s important the higher education institution is doing its part to limit climate change.

“For over 150 years, Federation has delivered education experiences that drive economic growth and jobs in our region, continually adapting ourselves to ensure we remain relevant to the communities we operate in,” he said.

“Climate change impacts us all, and our towards net zero plan will help us achieve carbon reduction targets and ultimately enable us to provide leadership at a global, national, and local level on carbon reduction practices.”

As part of the plan, Fed Uni staff will aim to prioritise energy-efficient and renewable resources while utilising virtual energy networks throughout campuses and adopting electric vehicles and equipment.

Federation University’s upcoming projects to support the program include the Asia Pacific Renewable Energy Training Centre, being built at the Mount Helen campus with $6 million from the State Government.
