Students move in to new school space
URQUHART Park Primary School’s grade four students moved into a new purpose-built learning space this week, and there is something unique about it.
It’s a permanent modular school building which was constructed by KL Modular and was shipped to Urquhart Park on the back of a truck for on-site assembly.
Grade 6 school captain, Mal said his peers are grateful for their new centre, and surrounding fresh landscaping which nods to their studies in a language other than English.
“A beautiful, new Japanese garden supports our students to learn more about Japanese culture,” he said.
“After a school tour last year, Juliana Addison supported us to attain $1.5 million dollars of government funding so that we could build our new learning centre. We would like to thank her for supporting our school community.
“Thank you also to our Minister for Education, Mr James Merlino and the State Government for their funding and support.”
Principal Janet Hillgrove said KL Modular and project management firm, Sensum “really listened to what the community was seeking.”
“We’re so appreciative and grateful for this beautiful learning space for our children,” she said.
“We have a very forward-thinking school council who are supportive of our projects that will move the school into the future.”
The new construction replaces a dated building which contained asbestos, and was made possible by the State Government’s Permanent Modular School Buildings Program.
Project manager, William Petherbridge said the installation of permanent modular buildings is a faster, less disruptive construction option for schools.
