VICTORIA Park is set to gain a new sports pavilion on Military Drive for community groups to enjoy.

With $500,000 of State funding and $3.25 million from the City of Ballarat, the site at Victoria Park Soccer and Lucas Cricket clubs’ home ground will include female-friendly changerooms, umpire changerooms, a kitchen and canteen, offices, storage, seats for spectators, public toilets, landscaping, and paths.

City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said the Victorian Government boost has come from the World Game Facilities Fund.

“We’re really grateful for the State’s support of this important project,” he said.

“Soccer is one of our strongest participation sports, and Victoria Park is at the gateway to our fast-growing western suburbs, so this upgrade will have a significant impact for hundreds of players at senior and junior levels.

“This supports the $1.3 million resurfacing and lighting works completed and underway at the facility, which together will enhance the status of Victoria Park as one of city’s most important community spaces.”

Victoria Park Football Club is home to approximately 140 junior and senior players.

Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said upgrading their facilities will make the sport even more attractive, and welcoming.

“Female-friendly facilities help to level the playing field when it comes to participation in sport,” she said.

While works are being done, soccer and cricket will continue to be played on site. The pre-existing pavilion will be revamped for the Ballarat Dog Obedience Club.

Works are expected to be completed by mid-2022.
