State History Awards closing soon
THE nomination entry period of the 2021 Victorian Community History Awards, celebrating those who proactively preserve the state’s history, will close on Wednesday, 7 July.
Committed people involved with historical projects in the community, who are keeping local stories alive, are eligible for 10 categories of awards, and money, this year.
The gongs up for grabs include Victorian Premier’s History Award, Collaborative Community History Award, Local History Project Award, History Publication Award, Local History – Small Publication Award, Community Diversity Award, Digital Storytelling Award, Historical Interpretation Award, Oral History Award, and History Article Award.
The Awards process in past years has boosted and celebrated the projects of individual historians and groups from Ballarat who champion the city’s history.
The 2019 Premier’s History Award was won by Phil Roberts for Avenue of Memories, a book about the Arch of Victory and Avenue of Honour.
Ballarat-born Sandy Jeffs took home a Community History gong for book, Out of the Madhouse, while local historians involved in the publication of Mining Mud & Medals have also been shortlisted in recent years.
