THE 150th anniversary of Warrenheip Primary School was celebrated by past and present pupils, staff and families last Sunday 7 December.

Warrenheip Primary School’s teachers wore their best late-1800s outfits for the occasion.

A weeping cherry was planted by former student Doug Wilson, current students Ollie and Caydin, the Member for Eureka Michaela Settle, and the Member for Ballarat Catherine King.

Members of the school community past and present attended the celebration day to reflect between 10am to 2pm.

Ms King also presented the school’s Catherine King Community Award to long-time building maintainence and groundsman Neil Morris.

Attendees were able to look at archival photos and memorabilia, they enjoyed refreshments, and played old-time games in a throwback to 1875.

Warrenheip Primary School opened on its current site in 1875, however education in the area goes back to 1860 when a goldfields school with 49 pupils was started in a building rented from the Wesleyan authorities.
