Web series takes kids behind city scenes

BE TV, a children’s web series born of the City’s Be Kind – Be Creative campaign is helping little people keep in touch with their town.

Referencing former local television station, BTV6, Be TV is in six-parts, hosted by actor Kaine Hanson, aiming to educate in a funny way.

The show goes behind the scenes of local institutions including the wildlife park and animal shelter, shares stories of Wadawurrung culture, presents science experiments, and activities for kids to keep moving and creative, away from screens.

Tara Poole, City of Ballarat Creative Cities coordinator, said the content produced by Mass Motion was originally designed as a home resource for school-aged children, but it’s had a wider reach.

“Schools are using it as a tool. We had somebody sending us a picture of a whole class watching and laughing which was really rewarding,” she said.

“Be Kind – Be Creative now has initiatives for six-year-olds through to 65.”

City of Ballarat mayor, Cr Ben Taylor said the series provides an “important economic stimulus for artists, creatives and producers.”

“The activities have been reviewed by the City’s diverse group of early educator specialists, to ensure relevant content,” Cr Taylor said.
