THE Ballarat Animal Shelter is urgently looking for donations of wet cat and dog food for shelter residents to eat for breakfast.

Donations of sealed wet food along with tinned unflavoured sardines can be dropped off at the shelter on Gillingham Place between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

The shelter is also accepting donations of sheets used for bedding, towels, dog, and cat treats like pig ears, training treats, dry food and toys to help the furry residents have a comfortable stay.

The shelter is run by the City of Ballarat and director of growth and development Natalie Robertson said any community donations are greatly appreciated.

“The City of Ballarat operates the Ballarat Animal Shelter and gratefully receives donations of wet food which is an extra treat for our animals,” she said.

“The Ballarat Animal Shelter relies on the generosity of an animal-loving Ballarat community.”

Currently across the Ballarat community there are more than 15,000 dogs and more than 6000 cats registered.

Any excess donations go towards other organisations in Ballarat which provide support for people and their pets.

“Donations are also shared with local not-for-profit agencies which support people in need who have pets to care for, including people who are homeless and fleeing family violence,” said Ms Robertson.
