What is the Question – March 2022
For March’s What is the Question Roland Rocchiccioli talked with Adrian Misseri.
What is your name?
Adrian Misseri
What is your occupation?
Podiatrist.
What brought you to Ballarat?
I was looking for a change of pace after being in Bendigo for six years. Twelve years ago a work opportunity came up in Ballarat and I gave it a go.
What is your favourite spot in the city?
The Botanical Gardens. I remember walking through them when I first moved to Ballarat, and fell in love with the statues, the Prime Minister’s Walk, and the amazing trees.
What is the best decision – ever?
Wanting to be a father and marrying my wife Christine to create our family! They’ve shown me so many wonders, and taught me so many things about love. It fills my heart every day.
What do you like to cook?
Coming from an Italian background meals were always a meeting point for the family. I love cooking things which bring people together. I have a soft spot for feeding the hoards with pizza
What is the greatest love of your life – apart from friends and family?
I love dance! I’ve been a ballroom dancer for 10 years, and done social dancing as well. The feeling I get from being on the floor is addictive! It amazes me how some people can just float across a dancefloor.
If you could ask your pet one question, what would it be?
“Why do you constantly smell so bad?” Willow, our nine-month-old cavalier has earned the name Stinky Head. The vet says she’s as healthy as can be!
What is your favourite holiday destination?
Florence, which I first visited many years ago. I have a keen interest in the Renaissance and the works of Dante Alighieri. These days, anywhere in the caravan with the family is my favourite place!
What is your favourite quote?
“Aim for the moon, because even if you miss, you’ll land amongst the stars.”
What technological/scientific development boggles your mind?
The concept of time and relativity. It’s so simple yet so complex! I’m a science nerd so I’m often reading scientific articles
What qualities do you admire in other people?
Authenticity and the courage to be yourself. Everyone is different, and to love oneself, and be confident in oneself, as difficult as that is, I find admirable. None of us is perfect, but we are all amazing.
What is the best parenting advice you could give?
Buy the onesies with the zips. You won’t be able to do studs at 3 am when you haven’t slept.
And remember, people have been having babies for thousands of years in all sorts of conditions, so it’s pretty hard to make too much of a mess of it
What was your favourite toy?
Lego. Every Saturday morning would be spent creating something for a couple of hours with cartoons on in the background, then I’d spend all afternoon playing with what I had made
What is your all-time favourite book?
The Great Divorce by C. S. Lewis. It’s so simple, but so profound. I read it during a challenging time in my life and it gave me considerable perspective. I get something new every time I read it
What is your favourite smell?
That first espresso of the morning
What is something about you which is still the same as when you were a child?
I still can’t kick a football with any accuracy or distance!
What is your favourite place in the world and what makes it so special?
Home! I’ve been a lot of places in my life; done and seen a lot; but coming home to my family, seeing what we have around us; what we’ve worked for; and built up together.
