Winter woollies help summer’s fencing angels

INTERKNIT and Branberry are supporting bushfire affected communities through their ‘Beanies for BlazeAid’ appeal.

From 13 February to 30 April, $3 from every pure wool beanie sold instore or online will be donated to BlazeAid.

The Australian charity is a volunteer-based organisation that works with communities that have been struck with disaster from flood or fire, with a focus on refencing properties.

Interknit team member Monita Gangavarapu said BlazeAid would put the money towards supporting farmers.

“The donations will be used to source the tools that the volunteers use to help dig out the burnt posts and fencing,” she said. “It can also be used for materials for farmers who are underinsured or not insured at all, to help them get back on their feet.”

One of Interknit’s customers was directly affected by the Lexton bushfires, which inspired the business to donate 30 beanies to the BlazeAid camp currently based at the golf course.

Director Kassie Blaszak said after she and her husband Andrew visited the camp, they realised how much support the organisation needed.

“It opened our eyes to what BlazeAid are doing to help those farmers and since Lexton is so close to Ballarat, we saw it as part of our community,” she said.

All of Interknit’s beanies are hand finished in their Ballarat factory using pure Australian Merino wool.
