WITH the winter season nearing its end, members of the Woady Yaloak Football Netball Club are looking to establish their junior netball sides in the leadup to the summer campaign.

Expressions of interest are open until Friday 8 September for budding players to join the Warriors’ nine and under and 11 and under sides, as well as their new 13 and under teams affiliated with the Ballarat Netball Association.

Club’s president Adam Liversage said getting teams structed for the upcoming summer competition will set the sides up for next year’s winter season.

“Getting these sides over the spring and summer seasons over the break will give us really good traction for under 9s, 11s, and 13s for the BFNL season in 2024,” he said.

“We’re accepting of everyone and anyone and we’re looking to field as many teams as we can.”

Mr Liversage said there’s been a strong interest in the club’s netball side.

“In netball we’ve been able to field really strong numbers in the winter seasons and in the off seasons we’ve been able to field three teams at the Selkirk competition this term and into the next,” he said.

Since joining the Ballarat Junior Football Netball League last year, the Woady Warriors have had one nine and under, and two 11 and under teams taking part in the 2023 winter season.

The BNL summer competition is set to run from Tuesday 24 October to Monday 25 March next year.

Mr Liversage said the introduction of 13 and under side will be an important next step for the club’s netball squads.

“We’ve put a lot of work into developing our netball program and under 13s is the beginning of the higher echelons of the age group,” he said.

“It’s important these kids have every opportunity they can to develop these skills. These spring and summer competitions are really important because it gives these kids some experience and team-bonding.”

A come and try day and community event will is set to be held around November and February respectively to continue boosting interest in the club before next year’s winter competition.
