A BALLARAT winter classic is back with Sovereign Hill’s Winter Wonderlights lighting up this June.

On for three weeks starting on Saturday 24 June, the streets of the outdoor museum will become full of rainbow projections.

Last year the event saw almost 100,000 people pass though the living museum’s gates, providing a boost for the local economy.

CEO of Sovereign Hill, Sara Quon, said the attraction has become a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

“We love staging Winter Wonderlights, not only because it looks and feels spectacular but because the light projections create a special type of awe and joy on the faces of our visitors,” said Ms Quon.

For the decade the event has run, more than 700,000 people have come to see the colourful projections onto Sovereign Hill’s 1850s style buildings.

“The brilliant transformation of our site with lights has become a tradition, bringing a completely new way to experience our wonderful museum,” Ms Quon said.

This year, there’ll again be many opportunities for visitors to get in the winter spirit with fake snow falls, fairy lights, visits from St Nicholas and festive themed food and drinks.

For a second year, there will also be an adult only night on Friday 14 July with music from DJs and drinks available.
