World Water Day Marked by CHW

STUDENTS at Mount Pleasant Primary School have been presented with a Be Smart Choose Tap drinking fountain following their efforts during the recent Begonia Festival.

The pupils collected 250 single use plastic bottles and added them to the collection of thousands filling a giant turtle installation, which was the centrepiece of Central Highlands Water’s exhibit during the festival.

“Thank you to Mount Pleasant Primary School for joining our crusade to reduce single-use plastic bottles,” said CHW’s General Manager, Customer and Community, Jacqueline O’Neill.

“We commend the students and teachers for proactively taking action, caring for our environment and choosing tap water over bottled water.”

The presentation was made on Friday, 22 March and coincided with World Water Day.

It wasn’t the only effort by CHW to mark the Day.

The utility provider also donated just over $4500 to the WRISC Family Violence Support Centre.

The money was raised by selling stainless steel, refillable, drink bottles during the Begonia Festival.

“We are very appreciative to CHW for choosing us as their partnering local charity,” said Ms Libby Jewson, Executive Officer of WRISC.

“CHW is doing some great work in our community and this donation will assist WRISC to provide more support to families experiencing violence. We believe that everyone has the right to be safe, to be treated equally and to have access to the same opportunities as everyone else.”

While CHW is more often associated with environmental stewardship, Ms O’Neill said support for WRISC was part of the company’s wider community engagement effort.

“We are committed to giving back to the communities we provide services to and we are passionate about our vulnerable customer program for those in our community who are experiencing financial difficulty and family violence,” she said.

“CHW is very proud to support the invaluable work WRISC offers to the local community.”
