WRISC Family Violence Support has launched a fundraising pop-up op-shop in the heart of the city.

Open from tomorrow, Thursday, 8 July until Sunday, 11 July, the shop at 420 Sturt Street is selling quality pre-loved clothing to generate funds for services supporting women and children who have experienced family violence.

WRISC executive officer Libby Jewson said the sale is a chance for the organisation to create greater connections with their community.

There is clothing for “all women, from women” at the sale coordinated by women.

“We asked for donations, and we’ve received a lot of beautiful quality donations, so we’re now looking for people to come and buy,” she said.

“It would be fantastic if we didn’t have to do fundraising, but the fact is that we’re a not-for-profit, so this is a really good way to connect with our community, and for them to learn a bit more about us.”

In line with their strategic plan, WRISC’s fundraising efforts will focus on the development of groups which support women, children, and Indigenous children.

The shop will be run by volunteers from 10am to 5.30pm each day. Clothing donations will not be accepted while the pop-up is open, but project lead Chloe Gyorosi said financial donations will be gladly received.

“People are welcome to come in and just give monetary donations. We’ll have card facilities, and we’ll be taking cash too,” she said.

“On our opening day we’ll have eco stylist Della Vreeland coming in to offer some styling expertise.”

Increasing the number of local residents donating once-monthly to the organisation is also part of the project brief.

“If people are thinking about doing a regular donation, we will be able to set that up on the days we’re open,” Ms Jewson said.
