BALLARAT Lyric Theatre has presented its very first Director’s Award to a young performer, for his dedication to the recent production of Les Miserable.

Brandon Moore-Trye was nominated as the recipient of the inaugural honour at the Lyric Theatre’s gala night on Saturday, 29 February.

The 17-year-old was a member of the ensemble but had a named roll of Montparnasse, who is a member of Thenardiers’ gang.

Moore-Trye said Ballarat Lyric Theatre provided a comfortable and engaging environment to perform.

“I most enjoyed the community in our production of Les Mis, it was so easy to perform when we all felt like a big family,” he said.

For nearly three years Moore-Trye has been acting in productions and he said he’s loved every moment of it.

“I enjoy acting because it gives me a sense of euphoria I can’t quite explain, whenever I do it, I can be whoever I want to be,” he said.

To be eligible for the prize, a cast member had to demonstrate immense commitment to the stage play.

Ever the improviser, Moore-Trye did not even know that he was going to receive the award until it was given to him on the gala night.

He said there are many people to thank for the decoration, as almost everyone in his life has helped shape and refine his talent.

“I would like to thank everyone who I worked with in our production, everyone felt so supportive and easy to work with. I also want to thank my mum who took so much time out of her life to help me,” Brandon said.

“I would also like to thank director, Stephen Armati for every opportunity he has given me since I first met him, he has always pushed me to be better and I wouldn’t be who I am without him.”
