The size of Lucas is approximately 7.5 square kilometres and has two parks.

The population of Lucas in 2011 was 645 people and by the 2016 Census the population was 998 showing a population growth of 54.7 per cent in the area during that time.

Lucas is a relatively new suburb created in 2011 after a precinct structure plan was lodged by Lascorp Australia.

Lucas is named after Eleanor Lucas and the staff of her local textile company, who planted Ballarat’s Avenue of Honour after World War I.

One of Ballarat’s newest suburb, Lucas will cover an area of 750 hectares that is expected to house around 14,000 new homes as part of the City’s plan to support 30,000 people who are expected to move into the western growth areas over the next 15 years.

CoreLogic data indicates that the predominant age group in Lucas is 20-29 years with households in Lucas being primarily couples with children and are likely to be repaying $1,400 – $1,799 per month on mortgage repayments and in general, people in Lucas work in a professional occupation.

In 2011, 92.1 per cent of the homes in Lucas were owner-occupied compared with 60.7 per cent in 2016.
