THE Ballarat Miners have been named the NBL1 Club of the Year at the annual league awards night.

The award is given to a club which has exceeded performance expectations over areas such as community engagement, game night experience, stadium amenities, attendance and membership numbers, and administrative adherence.

CEO of Basketball Ballarat, Neville Ivey, said it was exciting for the club to be recognised for their initiatives.

“It was an honour to accept the award on behalf of the organisation,” he said.

“This achievement reflects a team effort by management, staff and volunteers including committee members and the directors of the Board who provide guidance and a supportive environment.”

The awards night, which was held earlier this month, saw representatives from each club come together to celebrate this season’s achievements.

Mr Ivey, along with Luke Rosendale, Tyler Rudolph, Chloe Bibby, Abbey Wehrung, Chris Thornton, Joel Anderson and Lydia Brooks represented the Miners.

Wehrung won Defensive Player of the Year while Rudolph and Bibby were named as part of the all-star five.

The award win comes after the Ballarat Miners played the victorious Eltham Wildcats in the NBL1 South grand final.
