The competition doubled as a come-and-try weekend.

BALLARAT Water Polo Association hosted their inaugural Griller’s Mark Ballarat Water Polo Cup and Gala last month at the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre.

The weekend began with a strong turnout of new juniors trying the sport, before seven teams dived into the pool to battle it out for the cup.

Competing were two teams from Ballarat, two from Geelong, one from Bendigo, one from Footscray and a Latrobe/Northcote team.

Ballarat won the tournment; the first the BWPA has run itself.

Seven Victorian teams competed.

“There was lots of amazing positive energy, lots of fun, and lots of water polo!” said president Melinda Childs.

New Ballarat player Julia Barton won the Most Goals by a Female Award.
