Blast off with cricket program
BALLARAT-Redan cricket club is looking for more young players to join the Cricket Blasters program.
It is open to children aged 10 and under and teaches the foundational skills of cricket such as catching, throwing and teamwork.
The sessions run on Sundays from 10am until 11am at Alfredton Oval.
“It’s really just about getting kids started in the game and coming and having a bit of fun,” coordinator Sam Neale said.
“We really try to make some fun games out of it and keep the kids active.”
Mr Neale said the 60-minute sessions are a great chance for parents to bond with the children and to form new connections
“I think the kids like getting the parents involved,” he said.
“My kids in particular really loved that time with me getting out there and playing games with them.”
Once children have completed the program, they can either join the under 11 league or take part again the following year.
“By the end of the 10 weeks that ends in March we progress to mini games, and they are the lead-in to the first year of under 11 cricket,” Mr Neale said.
