Cooper on track to live his dream
BANNOCKBURN College student, Cooper Kitchen has been selected to play Australian rules football for the School Sport Victoria Twelve Years and Under team.
Heading to Mandurah, Western Australia in August, Cooper will compete in the School Sport Australia Championship. This follows a structured selection process including a round robin tournament, nominations from schools and area trials.
Three students were put forward by Bannockburn College, and with Cooper’s success, it’s the first time a member of the school community has played for the team.
This experience means “everything” to Cooper.
“I want to go really far with footy. As far as possible, wherever it takes me,” he said.
“My dream since I was little, I wanted to play AFL. With this opportunity, I’m trying my best to achieve the best. I’m very excited to go to Perth, I’m keen to learn.”
Anthony Kitchen, Cooper’s dad, said his son is excited to be a representative of Bannockburn, his hometown, as well as the state.
“For us as a family, it’s an exciting time. You always want to best for your kids and this kind of opportunity doesn’t get given lightly,” Mr Kitchen said.
“It’s pretty important, and a lot of good things can come from this. It’s a massive achievement and it’s something he should be proud of.”
The Kitchen family are seeking sponsors to support Cooper during his time with the state team. Those interested should contact Anthony Kitchen on 0408 330 610.
