Cup promises fast paced action
NEXT Saturday will see basketballers from around the region take part in the 3XCup Qualifier at Selkirk Stadium.
The three-on-three format is played on a half court and Basketball Ballarat CEO Neville Ivey said this makes it exciting and fast paced.
“It’s really quick, like when you think about other sports that have evolved over the years such as test cricket and T20,” he said.
“It’s kind of similar because there is a lot of music, a lot of action and it’s fast paced.”
The event will provide local players with the opportunity to progress the state championships and play the best teams from around Victoria.
Winners of A grade matches will receive automatic qualification for the next stage in the winter school holidays and some wildcard spots will be available.
Winners of all divisions will receive Miners merchandise.
Mr Ivey said there is an appetite to play the different format in the region.
“The three and three version of basketball has involved over the last couple of years and we’re now seeing it played internationally,” he said.
“We know that there’s interest from players to play that different format.”
The event is open to domestic representatives from the BBA and VJBL as well as players from other associations.
Team registration is currently open on the Basketball Ballarat website and closes on Monday 15 April.
