THE Ballarat Miners continue to sign new imports and have welcomed a Swedish player to their women’s team ahead of the NBL1 South Season next month.

A 184-centimetre forward, Emma Karamovic is joining the Miners after a stint with Ausarta Barakaldo, Spain, and time with University of Tampa and Southeastern University, both in Florida.

“This is my first time coming to Australia,” she said. “I was looking for a team with great culture and a coach that believes in me and the team, and that is why I signed with the Miners.

“I want to set up goals with the team and try our best to reach them, but also explore the area and integrate into the community.”

In Spain, Karamovic scored an average of 13.3 points and 4.5 rebounds, and the Miners Women’s head coach Rob Baker said the side was excited to have her.

“She will be a great fit for us on the court with her international experience and her ability to play multiple positions on the floor,” he said.

“Emma has the ability to play inside with her physicality and strength and stretch the floor from outside with her shooting range.”

Ballarat Miners elite teams committee member Lynly Doherty said the team has a core group of local athletes, and Karamovic is set to bring some international experience.

Signings already announced for the Ballarat Miners Women ahead of the NBL1 South Season launch on Saturday, 1 April include Abbey Wehrung, Millie Cracknell, Jemma Amoore, Annie Collins, and Milly Sharp.
