THE 2019 AFL Goldfields female season will begin at the end of this month, Sunday, 28 April.

Ballarat players will be competing in four grades; AFL Goldfields Women’s, Ballarat Football and Netball League U18 Youth Girls, U15 Youth girls and U13 Junior Girls.

AFL Goldfields Female Football Manager, Krista Woodroffe said the competition has expanded for 2019.

“With so many new and existing teams being represented this year we are really pleased with how clubs have continued to grow participation in our region,” she said.

“It is a credit to all of the volunteers who put in the time and effort to really drive the game. We still have a long way to go in ensuring the sustainability of female football within our regions but as it stands, the competition is looking strong.”

The season will have three themed rounds including Mother’s Day on Sunday 12 May, the Indigenous Round on Sunday, 26 May, Women in Football on Sunday, 21 July, and Towards Zero on Sunday, 4 August.

This year there are more opportunities for the women’s competition to experience Friday night and Saturday twilight games after the senior men play.

Last Monday, 15 April, the AFL Goldfields Under 18 Development Squad travelled to Tasmania to play Hobart and Launceston teams in preparation.
