Grand finals set in Saturday Pennant
LINTON’S Division 6 side had success in Ballarat-Highlands Bowls Region Saturday Pennant preliminary finals action, with a comfortable win over Central Wendouree on the weekend.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good news for Linton with the club’s Division 3 side losing to Victoria with both games played at Sebastopol.
“Our Division 6 side did really well to get the chance to play finals and now it’s great that the team has reached the grand final,” said Linton’s Craig Grenfell.
“It’s also good that this season a number of country teams in the Region will be represented in the grand final matches to be played on Saturday.”
The Linton team will come up against Clunes who have played well all summer and are sure to provide stiff competition for premiership honours.
Central Wendouree’s manager Sue Gray said their club’s Division 6 side was the only team that qualified this season to play finals in the Saturday Pennant competition.
She also said the squad did well to finish in second position after the home and away games, and she was hopeful for success for the side during the finals.
“Our bowlers bowled well all afternoon on the Sebastopol green that was well presented for the game, but it was just the case that the opposition bowled better on the day taking out the game by 17 shots,” Gray said.
In the other game played at Sebastopol, Victoria’s Division 3 side had the upper hand taking out the game with two rinks up and a draw.
The Linton rink of Nick Pearce had a good 14-shot win, but unable to offset the strong victories that Stephen Britt’s and Braddley Barnes’ rinks secured.
“We have got our teams combination pretty right at the moment helping the side to perform well leading into the grand final,” said Victoria’s Robert Chapman.
“Although we started off slow our bowlers were resilient and stuck to their guns enabling us to go through for the win.”
