Haddrick on top in Men’s singles

RICHARD Haddrick is the Men’s Over 60s Singles Ballarat District Bowls Division champion after defeating Mark Vorbach last week.

Held at Ballarat North Bowling Club on Thursday, 14 November, the final saw Haddrick jump out to a 19-4 lead.

Yet Vorbach fought back, managing to get within three shots, at 19-16. However, Haddrick proved to strong eventually winning the day, 21-16.

To reach the premiership match Vorbach defeated Brian Hickman in the semi-final, 22-8, while Haddrick had a closer game against Col Young victorious, 21-16.

Neil Redfern, Laurie O’Keane, Ron Davidson and Fred Reus are a hard audience to impress.

The quarter finals and round of 16 for the comp were held at Creswick Bowling Club two days earlier and had some close games.

The quarters saw Mark Vorbach defeat Chris Sherry as the former made his way to the semi finals, while Young won against Norm Hand, 21-6. Eventual champion Haddrick defeated Steve Gollan, 22-6. Hickman had a close game against Terry McDonald winning 21-17.

In the round of 16 results included Hand getting a win over Kevin McKeegan, 21-18, and Vorbach downing Eddie Harwood, also 21-18.

Gollan came home strong winning against Robert Storey, 21-17.

Haddrick had a win against John Hofstra, 23-13, McDonald defeated Ed Harman, 22-14, and Young scored a convincing win over David Knight, 22-6.
