THE recent Athletics Victoria Track and Field Championships saw Ballarat’s Nyajima Jock win her two hundred metre sprint event.

Against a skilled cohort of runners, 17-year-old Jock represented Wendouree Athletics Club at Murrumbeena’s Duncan Mackinnon Reserve with a time of 25.36 seconds.

In her happy place when on the track, Jock was pleased to have a win after a challenging 2019.

“I didn’t have the best winter in training and ran my fastest time this season,” she said.

“The wind was quite strong on the bend so when I got to the 100 It was harder to finish. It was also really good to go from third last year to first. It was a good feeling.”

Launching into Little Athletics for a season in Under 15s, Jock started seriously training and competing more frequently a year later.

Now heading towards 18, she’s got dreams to make it big at the top with the best.

“I definitely want to make it to the Olympics one day,” Jock said.
