Miners sign big man

THE latest name inked to the Miners men’s squad for the 2024 NBL1 South season is a big man who likes to play in the paint.

Majok Majok is the 10th player added to the roster and the 210 centimetre power forward and centre has spent time in the NBL and the NBL1 system.

Born in South Sudan, Majok came to Australia at eight years old and put in time in the US collage system and Slovenian pro-league before retuning to Australia for stints with Melbourne United, the New Zealand Breakers, Perth Wildcats and the Tasmania JackJumpers.

The 31-year-old also tried out with the Dallas Mavericks in 2017 and has been recruited in part for his experience and leadership.

“I’m excited to be on board with the team and to play for the great town of Ballarat,” Majok said.

“I’m looking forward to meeting everyone, from players and staff to the greater community, and getting started for what should be an amazing season ahead.”

Last season Majok played with the North Gold Coast Seahawks in the NBL1 North where he averaged more than 12 points and nearly the same number of rebounds in 17 games played.

Miners men’s head coach Luke Brennan, who spent time with Majok at the Warwick Senators in the NBL1 West, welcomed the announcment of the big man.

“Majok will provide the group with a much needed presence in the paint,” Brennan said.

“He’s a walking double-double who makes smart decisions with the basketball.

“Having worked previously with Majok in both the NBL and NBL1, there is a great level of comfort between us.

“I know he will have a great impact on not only the team but the broader Ballarat community.”

Other names on the Miners men’s NBL1 South list for season 2024 include Luke Rosendale, Nick Stoddart, Ethan Fiegert, Zac Dunmore, Ned Renfree, Jake Lloyd, Max Cody, Amos Brooks, and import MVP Tyler Rudolph.

The team’s campaign get’s underway on 3 April with home games at Selkirk Stadium for both the men and women’s squads again the Bendigo Braves.
