SEASON 2025 recruit Joshua Morris and star goal shooter Maddy Selmon have claimed North Ballarat’s top football and netball honours.
Morris, who joined the Roosters from SANFL club Woodville-West Torrens, put the lid on a tremendous season by winning the Stott-Eyres Best and Fairest Medal in his first season at the club.
A four-year player with AFL club Hawthorn and its VFL affiliate Box Hill from 2020-23, Morris’s experience proved invaluable to the Roosters, who blooded several debutants throughout the season as injuries took a toll. Third in last year’s best and fairest, Isaac Carey finished one spot higher this year as the runner-up.
Taj McMillan picked up the Howard Family Medal as the third placegetter.
In other senior football awards, Harvey Lewis won the Gerald Leonard Medal as the Roosters’ best first year player; Hugh Trigg was the leading goalkicker; and Sam Artz was the recipient of the coaches award.
A stellar A-grade netball season from goaler Selmon was capped with one more major award, after winning the McCartin Family Medal as best and fairest. The club award came on top of her Sally McLean Medal win as the Ballarat league’s best and fairest and selection in the BFNL team of the year.
Midcourter Brydi Hutchinson finished as runner-up, while Georgia Bodey won the coaches award.
Both players won dual awards, with Hutchinson the winner of the Gina Kickett Spirit of Netball Award and Bodey finishing runner-up to Daisy Darbin in the under-19 best and fairest in a premiership season for the young Roosters. A four-time premiership player with the Roosters, Selmon is now a two-time winner of the club best and fairest award, as well as a two-time league medallist.
