New netball opportunity for coach at Buninyong
BUNINYONG Football Netball Club has appointed Katrina Daws as its new A grade netball coach.
Daws and her family moved to Enfield two years ago, and since then, she has been looking to join a local club, but it was Buninyong’s welcoming atmosphere which won her over.
“I really want to make sure that the club I go to is where my family will be and I will be involved with for a long time,” she said.
“Everyone talks about how great [Buninyong] is with families and I have not heard a person say a bad thing about it.
“I have never felt so welcome at a club.”
Daws has extensive coaching experience with St Mary’s in the Geelong Football Netball League, Victorian Netball League pathway team the Geelong Flyers, and in the Queenscliff and Bellarine league.
She also leads the netball program at Geelong College, and helped a relatively young team win the Victorian secondary school championships this year.
“I just love the work I do at [Geelong College]; I love being able to develop these young players,” Daws said.
“We’re in a really good position and getting a lot of interest from so many people across the state.”
Daws said her focus at Buninyong will be to help young people skill up.
“Buninyong A grade is quite a young group as well so there is still a lot of that development side of coaching that I’m really excited to do there,” she said.
“I really want every player to feel valued and every player to feel as though they have individual and team development happening.
“Whatever position they go into, they should be able to execute the team plan based on what that role is.”
