New Saints players wanted at Linton
AFTER a huge season in the Central Highlands Football League, Carngham Linton are looking for more junior players to join the club.
Junior football director Nicole Allen-Green said they are particularly looking for under 15 and under 18 players.
“It’s an age where people sort of drift off a bit because other things become more important like friends,” she said.
“I think a lot of the country clubs struggle with those age groups.”
Last year the Saints’ seniors ended the season fifth on the ladder, a significant improvement from the previous year when they finished last.
Ms Allen-Green said the club’s strong juniors program is one of the reasons for this success.
“A lot of the ones in the senior team did start off as juniors at the club and I think doing that really gives them a passion for footy because they’re really proud of their club,” she said.
“We also had out juniors really supporting the seniors so they wanted to win for the whole club.”
The Sants now have a focus on building connections between the seniors and juniors to strengthen club pride.
“We’re really joining the seniors and the juniors together and all the junior levels will have a lot of interaction with senior players,” said Ms Allen-Green.
“We find a lot of the kids really look up to the senior players so they can learn from them and interact with them.
“Seeing one of their idols interacting with them really boosts them to want to play football.”
