MEMBERS of the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute are inviting the community to join them at Snake Valley Golf Club this month to raise money for the organisation.

The event, to be held Friday 22 November, will include nine holes of Ambrose format golf, lunch, a raffle and presentations.

This is the second year the BMI has organised this event, and vice-president Jane Valpied said it is about having fun and raising money for a good cause.

“We rely heavily on volunteers and fundraising, so we just thought we’d do something different,” she said.

“People were in a great mood afterwards knowing they were doing something good for both the Mechanics’ Institute and the Snake Valley Golf Club.”

The BMI is a not-for-profit organisation, and funds raised from the day will go towards the restoration of the reading room ceiling.

“Our main project at the moment is going to replacing the reading room ceiling which is a beautiful room at the back of the existing lending library,” said Ms Valpied.

“It is a gorgeous atrium glass roof which needs some repairs urgently.”

Local businesses are also being sought to sponsor a hole for $1000 which includes advertising on the hole, distribution of an information pack, entry for four players in the event and networking opportunities.

“We aren’t able to do the things we would like to do without the generous and kind support of the local community,” said Ms Valpied.
