VICTORIA Country have secured their first win of the under-18 Boys Championship, beating the Allies at Ikon Park on Saturday.

After losing their first two matches of the tournament, Country got their campaign going and handed the Allies their second loss, winning 11.16 (82) to 10.10 (70).

GWV Rebels duo Talor Byrne (Koroit) and Archie Taylor (Cobden) again featured for the side.

Named in the back pocket, Byrne kicked 1.1 and picked up 14 disposals.

Taylor played in the midfield and gathered 15 disposals to go with three marks.

For the Allies, Lachlan Carmichael racked up 33 disposals, whilst Jack Miler kicked three goals in their narrow defeat.

Victoria Country have one game to play in the tournament; against cross-state rivals Victoria Metro. That match will be played at RSEA Park on July 20 at 12 noon.

Byrne and Taylor are two of four Rebels players on the Victoria Country under-18 list, the other two being Harley Hicks (Lake Wendouree) and Ethan Drever (Ballarat), who is listed in the train-on squad.
