THIS month’s third round of the 2021 Victorian Club Autocross Series was won by Ballarat Light Car Club racer Richard Gay.

Driving a Mitsubishi VR4 four-wheel-drive turbo, Gay was one of approximately 60 drivers competing in a variety of vehicles at BLCC’s Mitchell Park track.

Completing six timed laps, some of which were the quickest of the meet, he won the event by two tenths of a second.

“The course surface changed several times throughout the day, which caused several drivers to spin and kept everyone on their toes,” Gay said.

Other performing Ballarat drivers included Reg Johnson in a rear-wheel-drive Galant who placed 16th outright, and reasonably new competitive driver, Glen Rivers, who achieved 26th place.

“Rod Hall, in his Laser, won Class D and was 31st outright. Dylan Simonis finished third in Class E and was 43rd outright in his sideways Commodore.

“Young 16-year-old, Jordon McDonald was flying in his Peugeot 206 GTI to win Class J and 14th outright, and the local grudge-match in Class P was won by Paul Gladman in his TX3 Laser, with just one second back to Sam Rozitis in the surprisingly quick Mirage,” Gay said.

“They were 12th and 13th outright, respectively, the first of the front-wheel-drive runners.”

The Victorian Club Autocross Series meet doubled as an opportunity to score 2021 BLCC Autocross Championship Series points.

With one more round of the local comp to go, Gay’s recent success has also secured him the BLCC Championship, which will conclude this Sunday, 16 May.

He is sponsored by businesses including Doherty & Clark, Auto Projects, Craig Signs, Dawsey Performance and Shift Works.
