INVERMAY travelled to City Oval to play off to consolidate their position in the four in Division 3 knowing the competition would be keen against the undefeated City Oval crew.

“We are having a reasonably successful season so far in both the Saturday and Tuesday pennant competitions,” said Invermay skipper Steve Riley.

“Today’s greens ran well but unfortunately we just missed out in what turned out to be a reasonably close contest overall.

“Nevertheless our club’s success commencing the season represents the positive culture in the Club.

“We have just changed the facade welcoming everyone to the club and have a club mascot in Nugget to keep the spirits up.”

City Oval’s win can be attributed with the strong 21 shots up that Ian Robinson’s rink had which enabled the team to take an overall eight-shot victory and scoring 13 points for the afternoon’s outing.

This places City Oval in fifth place with their second win for the season whilst the Invermay side hold onto third place after incurring their first loss. Beaufort head the Division 3 ladder undefeated with three wins, having had a washout in their first round match.

In the other game played at City Oval the home side narrowly managed to overcome the Clunes’ Division 6 team by five shots and earned 15 points in the afternoon just placing them in the four.

Ballarat hosted Webbcona’s Division 2 and Sebastopol’s Division 4 sides at home in what resulted in two closely contested matches with the home side narrowly securing a win in their top side by just three shots whilst the other game the home team fell two shots down to Sebastopol. Each side had two rinks up in both matches.

The experience of skippers Zac Stewart and Michael Sloper who won both their Division 2 games helped Ballarat secure their first win for the season. Whilst the Club’s Division 4 side is yet to win the narrow two shot loss to ladder leaders, Sebastopol gives the side confidence that success will shortly come their way.

“Our club is getting more experience into the team with skippers Zac Stewart, Michael Sloper and Chris Thornton guiding our Division 2 side enabling us to get close to win more games,” said Ballarat Bowling Club president Kelly Dubberley.

“With the return of Shane Wilson and Dusty Irwin-Taylor this will strengthen the side and give us the momentum to move forward for both our top side as well as all our teams generally.”
